Contemporary show

dancers
Yesterday I had the chance to go to the theatre for free. I have to thank Cristina, a coworker of mine, for this. She has a friend who manages to find free tickets for a large variety of shows in Rome.
Yesterday’s show was a contemporary production performed by a group of Russian dancers.

The show was original and unusual from the very start. The women on the stage wore eccentric costumes with hoop skirts and high heeled sandals. Their hair styles were bizarre as well, with big clips to keep their hair in place. The men wore a multicoloured pants and retro T-Shirts, except for one, who wore the same costumes as the women and sandals with heels. I was both surprised and interested by the development of the situations presented on the stage.

Another surprising detail was that the dancers weren’t phisically flawless as they usually are. The women had toned and firm skin but they looked strong and very athletic. The men seemed out of shape.
The way the dancers moved was extraordinary. Their gestures weren’t classic or elegant, but passionate and free. They followed the rhytm of coreography. Sometimes they danced with objects such as balls, balloons and little fans.

In the centre of the stage there was a trampoline which made the performance even more spectacular and exciting.
The choice of music was good, as it suited the show and the general atmosphere. There was a moment that caught my eye the most, when the dancers paired off and danced in a very sexual way. They passed an apple back and forth, mouth to mouth, without stopping their movements.

Francesca

bambola

When I was young I had a best friend named Francesca, who was a classmate of mine in Elementary School.
I used to spend a lot of time with her. We did homework together, played with dolls, and had a lot of fun.
It was a shock when I had to move with my family several kms away.

I felt miserable and sad because I had to change schools but most of all because the move meant we would be separated. We made a promise to each other, that we would continue to be best friends forever.
Unfortunately things didn’t happen the way we had hoped.

We were young girls and couldn’t meet up as often as we wanted to. We couldn’t spend much time talking on the telephone because we had to study and to take afternoon classes.
A few years later our friendship had changed. It was no longer as strong and unique as it once was. Our lives had changed and therefore so had the things we wanted and needed from each other.

It’s been a long time that I haven’t heard from her. But every now and then I happen to think about our childhood together and how I really miss that time.
